Democracy on Offense
Grow a Democratic Party that wins. Restore sanity throughout our government.
Let’s compete everywhere.
We need a Democratic Party that reaches out to mainstream Americans — not just those who pass all the progressive purity tests.
In the 2020 primaries, we welcomed the independent voters who stayed with us to beat Trump. In 2022, we supported leaders who reached out to independents and “future former Republicans” to put flippable red districts into play from Ohio to California.
In 2024, we’re taking the fight for our democracy to more battlegrounds nationwide.
How can Democrats put “Safe Republican” seats into play?
In 2022, a former independent named Adam Frisch ran as a big-tent Democrat in Colorado’s 3rd District and came within just 546 votes of defeating Lauren Boebert — all without a prayer from the pundits and a dime from the national party committees. Here’s how he did it.
Democracy Conceded
Over the course of the 2022 cycle, WelcomePAC’s quarterly Conceding Democracy reports highlighted 21 flippable red districts where Democrats were at risk of conceding races to Republicans by not fielding a credible challenge.
These seats were generally rated as “Safe Republican” by the ratings agencies, but some Democratic candidates proved them wrong.
Direct Action
In 2022, WelcomePAC and partners from across the political spectrum reached out to persuadable ticket splitters and party switchers in three right-of-center battlegrounds.
Ohio (Statewide)
Engaged potential split-ticket voters on behalf of Tim Ryan’s U.S. Senate campaign and supported a slate of 18 big-tent Democratic candidates for the OH State House.
California (CA-41)
Reached out to independent (“no party preference”) voters on behalf of big-tent Democrat Will Rollins’ campaign to unseat anti-democracy GOP Rep. Ken Calvert in CA-41.
Colorado (CO-03)
Partnered with center-right allies to conduct polling and voter modeling, ran primary RCT targeting unaffiliated voters, and identified GOP primary voters opposed to MAGA torchbearer Lauren Boebert.
